After a year of not self harming after five years of continuous grief, I treated myself to this tattoo set. I used to be the bird on the left, stuck wondering what to do and where to go but doing nothing about it. I am now free and very much so the bird on the right. Also inspired by Regina Spektor’s “Two Birds”.
Done by Nick Poli, Philly, PA.
I got this tattoo at: X Body Art Emporium in Swansea, MA by Paul Sobreiro. He’s absolutely hysterical. The tattoo hurt really bad to the point my mom lost feeling in her hand (out of a 1-10 the pain on my ribs was def a 10). The reason why I got this is because my dad passed away 3 years ago, there’s a song called “Currents Convulsive” by Pierce The Veil and that’s one of the verses. My dad loved the ocean and beach, so I thought it was a perfect memorial tattoo.

This is my first-and only-tattoo, so far. I have several more in the works, but this one is special to me. I’ve had the idea since high school, but waited years to get it (mostly because I have friends with meaningless tattoos they HAD to get the second they turned 18). I got this about 9 months ago at Outer Limits in Long Beach, California. Laura Bullets was the artist behind my masterpiece, and I can’t remember a single day since walking out of the parlor that I haven’t received a complement from passers-by. Every day it reminds me to ‘Let It Be,’ to take a deep breath, and let life take its course.
